Frank Hernandez, Ph.D. is an associate professor and Dean in the college of Education at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. Before joining UTPB, he served as the associate dean of the School of Education at Hamline University. His research interests include the intersection of identity and school leadership, equity and social justice, the principalship, Latina/os, and school leadership. Dr. Hernandez’s work has been published in Educational Administrative Quarterly, Education and the Urban Review, Journal of School Leadership, and the Journal of Leadership Education. Dr. Hernandez is also one of the founding scholars of The National Latino Leadership Project (NLLP), an effort that is focused on learning about the contributions that Latina/o school leaders are making to the PK-12 public school system. During his 15 years in public education, Dr. Hernandez has served as a classroom teacher, assistant principal, principal, and district coordinator of multicultural programming for several Midwestern urban school districts. He is the Past President of the Minnesota Network of Latinos in Higher Education and currently serves as the Secretary / Treasure of the Leadership for Social Justice Special Interest Group of the American Education Research Association (AERA).
