Dean, West College of Education at Midwestern State University

Matthew Capps currently serves as the dean of the West College of Education at Midwestern State University. During his 20+ years in education, Dr. Capps has served as a junior high and high school science teacher, public school administrator, professor of educational leadership, and a graduate faculty member at the University of Arkansas, as well as MSU. His work as an educator spans from pre-kindergarten through Ph.D. graduate students. Dr. Capps’ recent research interests focus on the impact of data on educational policy and practice, specifically, better understanding how data informs current policy and practice and better ways to accurately measure future impact. Dr. Capps has acquired over $1.5 million in private funding for the West College of Education and authored $7 million in federal funding while serving as interim dean of the Billie Doris McAda Graduate School. Dr. Capps serves on the board of visitors for CAEP, is a lead reviewer for ELCC, chairs the legislative action committee for TACTE, as well as the Texas Advisory Council of State Representatives to AACTE. In addition, Dr. Capps serves on the Educator Preparation Advisory Council and Data Accountability Advisory Committee for the Texas Education Agency.
