Michael Gunzenhauser is a philosopher of education and a qualitative research methodologist at the University of Pittsburgh. He has been an associate professor of Administrative and Policy Studies in the School of Education since 2004, and in 2014 he became associate dean for Student Affairs and Certification. Prior to coming to Pittsburgh, Dr. Gunzenhauser was an assistant professor in the College of Education at Oklahoma State University. As a philosopher of education, he applies ethics, epistemology, and social theory to issues of social justice in education and qualitative research. Most recently, he has published work on professionalism among teachers and school leaders under pressure from accountability systems, including the 2012 book from Continuum Press, The Active/Ethical Professional: A Framework for Responsible Educators.
