Director of Orchestras, Edmond North High School

Peter Markes is currently in his thirteenth year as director of orchestras at Edmond North High School, and most recently was named the 2014 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year. In October, he was also named the National Federation of High Schools Outstanding Music Educator for Oklahoma and Region 6 (OK, TX, AR, CO, NM). In 2012, Mr. Markes performed with the Edmond North Orchestra at the prestigious Midwest Clinic in Chicago and has also twice performed with the orchestra in Carnegie Hall. He is the conductor for the Oklahoma Youth Philharmonic, and he sings and plays guitar with the band, Kyle Dillingham and Horseshoe Road. In the spring of 2013, the band toured for five weeks as part of the U.S. State Department’s American Music Abroad program, giving performances in Korea, Taiwan, Burma, and Russia. Mr. Markes resides in Oklahoma City with his wife, Kris, and their sons, Patrick and Vincent.
