Daphney L. Curry is developing a first-year teacher mentoring program for WCOE graduates. This chronologically relevant curriculum will be developed through a partnership with master teachers as a response to a teacher’s challenging first year. Educational leadership interns will mentor new teachers without the stress of developing a curriculum. The program has four goals: 1) improve retention rates for first year teachers, 2) provide a reliable database of first year teachers as part of the follow up for national accreditation, 3) further enhance the program’s nationally recognized school/college partnership, and 4) develop future school leaders.
Curry is an assistant professor and chair of the curriculum and learning department in the West College of Education (WCOE) at Midwestern State University.
